Fun, Fun, Fun Austin Weekend

I never thought I would be excited that some had the flu but this weekend was an exception.  Since Steve had the flu, he was not at work so we were able to leave for Austin early!  Early may be a relative term if you ask Steve since he got up early and was ready to leave by 10:30…opps!  We pulled out at noon (so early!)  On they way down we stopped at the Robertson’s.  It’s the shop in Salado that has the huge signs along I-35 advertising their beef jerky.  We were pleasantly surprised by all the fun gifts they had.

I bought this shirt which cracked me up!IMG00147

Below is a WT hat that also brought a smile to my face and reminded me of 4th of July when I couldn’t find Coors Light at the corner store.  I was shocked and was endlessly mocked by my accent.IMG00148 Steve and I stayed downtown near the convention center at the Hilton.  It was very nice!AUSCVHH_Hilton_Austin_home_left  Friday night we met Steve’s cousin and her husband at Manuel’s.  Before we met up with them, we went to Paradise Cafe on 6th street for a few drinks.  Austin July 09 004 We also visited the “24 hour store” on 6th that we were told has everything – by multiple people AND another store.  Since we were looking for a SD memory card for my camera I was skeptical but to my EXTREME surprise they had the memory card and many other useful things like USB cords, fried chicken, screw drivers, bungee cords, and “You can go to hell, I’m going to Texas” t-shirts.  What more could you want?!  Dinner was great with Steve’s fam!  After we were stuffed, we met up with some of the cousin’s friends at The Gingerbread Man.   We had lots of funny conversations, chest bumping, and lots of crazy beers.  Saturday was the best because it started with room service – one of my favorite things in life!  After a leisurely breakfast, we made our way late to the reunion.  Most of my family was drunk when I arrived (at 2 pm…yeah, no comment) which may or may not have made them really happy to see us.  We played a game called Left, Right, Center which all you need to know about it is that Steve won, $53!  Yea! Austin July 09 022   The afternoon was spent laughing and sharing stories.  When we were leaving, Rell (some relative I can’t figure out in the tree) gave Steve a $20 gift card to an amazing pizza place called Mangia.  It ended up being the pizza place that catered his cousin’s wedding, which Steve loved!  Steve got the best meat filled, deep dish pizza which he was very happy about. Austin July 09 031  Sunday was highlighted with lunch with my good friend Lauren and her husband Jon at The Great Outdoors Cafe.   I was excited for Lauren to meet Steve so I could get her thoughts on him.  Catching up in person is so nice.  They are always full of the most useful information!  As I type, Steve is looking at a tool Jon recommended and I am using a new tool Lauren mentioned.  Austin July 09 034I hope one day we find ourselves in the same city!   The trip was completed with a long drive home (thanks to rubberneckers looking at pulled over cars – so annoying!!), stopping in Waco for me and some Bush’s chicken.  Steve was not impressed with the amazingness of Bush’s chicken, but you can’t win them all!  I had the best time this weekend and wouldn’t change a thing!  I am so blessed!

4th of July in DC

I guess all my blogs can't be funny so here is just an update on me!

For my three day weekend I went to DC to see my sister. I flew in Thursday night. I arrived about 10 pm because my flight was delayed for some unknown reason. Sally was expecting me at 6:30 pm because I can't read a ticket...I looked at my arrival time Sunday, opps! We had a quick snack in the hotel bar then crashed for the night at The Melrose Hotel in foggy bottoms, which is not foggy btw. We woke up Friday to room service knocking at our door. I love the door hangy thing for breakfast delivery! After being lazy and getting ready, Sally and I hit the streets to go to the zoo. We stop at a cute cafe to eat lunch, we sat outside. It was amazing and fun!

After lunch we walked to the zoo, passing so many beautiful flowers. Sally was not annoyed at this point about me stopping every five feet for a pic with the flowers but it eventually comes. The zoo was great! We saw otters, pandas, and a bunch of lame birds that Sally liked. Best of all, it was free!! We made our way home to meet up with Al then we went to Bangkok Joe's for dinner that night. It's a unique kind of Asian food which was delicious! We crashed out..correction, I crashed out pretty early.

Awakened again by room service...yay vacation! We took it easy most of the day. We stopped by Sally's house and ate wonderful food a ZBurgers! Around 5:30 we arrive at Sal's co-workers house for a grillen' out 4th party. We participated in a crazy drink making ritual. You get a huge jar put an entire bottle of vodka in it, 6 limes, 1 cup of sugar, and packed full of ice. Then you wrap it in a beach towel and shake for 20 minutes...very scientific! The rule was "you must shake to partake." So we pass around this large jug for 20 minutes. Once the time is up, he take it out of the towel and we all have to initial the ice on the jug. Then we drink...but not from cups...all from the same jar! Some agree to this germ spreading practice and some don't but in 15 minutes it's all gone! One of Sal's co-workers is a boy and likes boys. He wouldn't drink out of the jug! I couldn't help but make a comment about other things he chooses to put in his mouth...luckily he wasn't offended! We ended up hanging there all night. At about 8:45 we walked to Madison Park and watch the fireworks over the Washington Monument while singing Amazing Grace. Very cool!

The next day I got ready to go home. We packed our big selves into Sally's tiny car once more and headed for the airport. Al insisted on smoking for the 100th time that day so I started complaining to him and he started complaining back. It was pretty funny and Sal thought it was a hoot. I then proceeded to go on and on about being hungry and hitting my water bottle on the car. Sally LOVED that! I made it home fianlly after a long delay. I caught a quick dinner with Steve then headed home.

Kidd Kraddick in the Morning Sells Crack! (and I'm buying)

I feel like this is more of a confession than anything. I have listened to Kidd Kraddick for as long as I can remember. At least since middle school which would put me at about 10+ years. They are the ones who told me about 9/11, anything the Backstreet Boys were up to, and everything in between. To say the least they have been entertaining me in the mornings for a long time but I have never really taken notice until recently.

The Kidd Show has always plugged people, applications, and bands. They mention at least twice a show to visit the web page to see them live on the webcam but it never interested me. I can imagine well enough what Big Al looks like in a bikini. They also talk about their twitter pages 15 times a day but that also never interested me but I have changed my tune. I started a twitter because like a water drop to the forehead I have been convinced by their constant plugs. They also have been talking about their webcam. How dumb does watching the radio sound?! So dumb! This morning I gave in; I turned on the webcam. I found myself watching the webcam like it was going to give me free money. Imagine me leaned into my computer rest my head on my hand staring...at work! The best part is on commercials they don't have sound. So I turn on I Heart Radio (another Kidd Kraddick shameless plugging product) to hear what is happening on the radio when they are not on the radio. About 20 minutes into this experience I realize I am watching the webcam, listening to them on I heart radio, and tweeting about them on their page. I immediately felt the need to blog about my problem. I have been brainwashed! I'm terrified of what they are going to try to sell me on next. I feel like I am in a weak spot and will sign up for anything at this point! AH!! I also just update my Facebook status...things are getting out of control!!

One of those days...

This is an email I sent to a few of my friends documenting last Thursday. This story is also one of the reasons I decided to blog besides Lauren's encouragement. I love retelling my day to friends when the events just get out of control. Now they can all just come to one place. Please enjoy my day!

So like I said my day started with the power going off at 7 am. I skipped the gym this morning so I could sleep in until 8. I can’t sleep without electricity because I need my fan (thanks Mom). So I lay in bed until 8 then proceeded to try to get ready in the dark without power. Mind you, I had my first meeting at a client site with my boss! So I can’t shave in the dark or straighten/do my hair so I wear pants and just pray for the best with my hair. I didn’t get to eat much of a breakfast either because I didn’t have a way to cook it...okay fine, microwave cook it.

I get to the meeting and everything goes well enough (another story in its self) and we are walking out of the high security building when I realize I left my purse upstairs in the manager's office! The manager had an interview afterward so I had to get the security guard to escort me up. Luckily the manager was not in his office so I thought I got away without him knowing…but no, I passed him in the hall way and had to explain. I also forgot to mention I almost ran out of gas on the way over.

I go back to my house because I don’t like the pants I’m wearing so I change into a better pair (so I think) only to realize when I’m down the street that these don’t fit either!! So I’m sausaged in tiny pants about to walk into Office Depot for some things I need for work; I step out of the car with my umbrella and the wind turns inside out then I proceed to get drenched. I finally get inside, make my purchases, and walk out with the umbrella which flips again then I realize it’s not even raining anymore!

I get back to the office with only loosing the cap to my DDP so I leave it in the car thinking that carrying a DDP without a cap would be dangerous, at the very least, with my luck today. I get in the office and tell my boss I’m there when he informs me that we have another meeting this afternoon. Remember back that I changed out of my suit!! So I go sit down at my desk to make the best of my wet, curly hair and tiny pant that aren’t even a suit. I crack open my diet 7up over my new laptop and it EXPLODES all over my desk, me, and the new laptop. To boot, the entire office was at my door about to go to lunch so they all saw it.

We all go to lunch together at an Indian place and I only one incident the entire time. The parking lot was flooded with running water. I had to walk through it with open toe shoes. One of the guys notice and started making fun of me so they all looked and laughed.

Good stuff from today: My co-workers helped me pick out Indian food. I did ask for something not spicy but I ended up with my mouth on fire, tongue burning, sweating, and a little dizzy. But they were so nice about helping me out. I also just bought tickets to DC for July 4th which makes me so happy!!

I am now sitting in my office trying not to touch anything, dry off, and think skinny thoughts in these pants!

Is it over yet?

A close friend of mine told me that blogging was fun and she can't imagine life with hers. I said I would give it a try to see if it was as therapeutic as she says. I feel I will have nothing to say or nothing appropriate to say...either way I feel I will never be able to give this address out to anyone I know.

Some would say I get distracted easily...especially at work. They may be right. With this being said I feel that today I have done a large amount of work, much more than an average Tuesday. With all this behind me at 4 pm, I decide to take time for myself. My computer doesn't face anyone so I can cruise the internet without a soul knowing. With encouragement from my evil co-worker, Jeff, I make the fabulous choice to screw around the rest of the afternoon, under the radar of course! I'm formatting my new blog when my co-worker googlechats me asking about my anti-virus. I immediately think all my inappropriate emails sent during work have been discovered!! In fear, I answer honestly that I have no idea if I have any sort of protection. If I was not as lazy as I am, I would have taken this time to shut down the plethora of personal websites I have open but no I keep updating my blog. Any idiot could see what happened next coming, my co-worker comes in to check on my naked computer and sees every last personal web page. My Google mail, two other blog pages, and my blog with the title "Is it over yet?" Sometimes the situations I get myself into amaze myself. My co-worker was at my desk a good 5 minutes soaking up all the inappropriate sites. I had a choice once he left, get to work immediately on something that would prove to him I wasn't playing around or continue playing around acting like I wasn't doing anything wrong. As you will recall, I did do A LOT of work today, much more than normal so I keep hanging out on Blogger but with a serious look on my face so they think I'm thinking/working hard. I hope it works...
